Ryan Garcia was arrested on June 8 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Beverly Hills and charged with one count of misdemeanor criminal damage to property.
The charges against the boxer were filed Thursday, with Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón releasing a statement about Garcia's actions.
“While we are pleased that no one was injured in this incident, reckless behavior causing damage to property shows a blatant and unacceptable disregard for the safety and peace of our community,” Gascón said. “Officers will remain committed to holding those responsible accountable.”
The charges against Garcia are a misdemeanor of “criminal damage to property, damage or destruction exceeding $400,” “and further, the amount of the defacement, damage and destruction was allegedly greater than $400,” according to the release.
If convicted, Garcia could face up to a year in prison in addition to fines.
His next court appearance is scheduled for arraignment on August 7 at Los Angeles Airport Court.
After the initial arrest, Beverly Hills Police released a statement regarding the phone call from the hotel that led to Garcia's detention.
“On June 8, 2024, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Beverly Hills Police Department was dispatched to 9850 Wilshire Boulevard (Waldorf Astoria) for a report of an 'intoxicated individual,'” Beverly Hills Police said in a June statement. “Following investigation, the intoxicated individual was identified as Ryan Garcia. After obtaining a statement from hotel management, it was determined that Mr. Garcia was a registered guest at the hotel and had caused damage to a guest room and hotel hallway. Hotel management requested the arrest of Mr. Garcia for criminal damage to property.”
“Ryan Garcia, 25, of Porter Ranch, California, was arrested on suspicion of felony criminal damage to property under Criminal Code 594(b)(1) and was transported by the Beverly Hills Fire Department to a local hospital for treatment.”
Garcia was ultimately charged with misdemeanor vandalism rather than a felony for causing an estimated $15,000 in damages to the hotel.
Garcia declared on Twitter shortly after the indictment was announced that he was “definitely not going to jail.”
There's no way I'm going to jail.

Garcia has endured a tough few months since arguably the biggest win of his career, a unanimous decision victory over Devin Haney, was ruled a no contest after he tested positive for the banned substance ostarine, leading to a one-year suspension by the New York State Athletic Commission.
Garcia was also banned by the WBC for making racist comments on social media.
