Following his major upset win in April, Ryan Garcia said he was retiring from the sport of boxing.
As things stand, Garcia won a unanimous decision over Devin Haney in Brooklyn on April 20, but the victory was controversial after he tested positive for a banned substance. Garcia's team said it was due to two tainted supplements. Additionally, Garcia was arrested in Beverly Hills, California, earlier this month on felony criminal damage charges.
With a lot of stuff converging in Garcia's life, the star boxer announced in a series of tweets on Wednesday that he was retiring from boxing.
My mom has cancer
Being sued
My supplements were contaminated
Going through a divorce
For years, I've been constantly criticized online.
Devin wants me to take away my win.
Being attacked by everything
I still love God. He is everything.

You judge me by what I say
For example, the situation at the Caleb factory
When J didn't talk about him, he talked about me.
When you're going through a really tough time in your life
I am human, not God, and I make mistakes.
I've really only tried to put money in everybody's pockets…

Boxing will be fine without me.
It's a shame though, the game was fun
Hitting people was fun

I might retire because this game is over.

Everyone has forgotten I existed

You may see me here and there, but I don't know about boxing.
There's so much corruption, I'm sick of it
Maybe I'll do some acting or singing.
I'm still going to train, but I'm injured and it's over now.
Sadly, I'm a great boxer.
And I entertain and amaze people…

I am officially retired
— Ryan Garcia (@RyanGarcia) June 19, 2024
“I am officially retired,” Garcia said in his final tweet on Wednesday night.
Garcia also hinted at dropping a “meme coin,” something that was mentioned in replies to some of the posts.
If this is the end of Garcia's boxing career, he will retire at age 25 with a professional record of 25-1 (20 KOs). Garcia's only loss came in April 2023, when he was stopped in the seventh round by Gervonta Davis.
