Ryan Garcia has become a superstar athlete due to his exploits in the boxing ring, his ability to grab attention with what he says, and his actions outside of the fight. During the latest episode of The Ryan Garcia Boxing Show, the controversial boxer posted a message to X that hinted at retirement.
This comes just two months after Garcia put together the best performance of his career against WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney, who was considered the heavy favorite in the betting, and Garcia is skyrocketing in popularity in 2024. The California native was asked about his state of mind heading into his latest bout, and believe it or not, this social media post is relatively calm considering the rollercoaster ride “King Li” has taken us through over the past few months.
“You might see them out and about, but boxing-wise, I don't know,” he said on X.
“There's too much corruption and I'm sick of it. Maybe I'll act or sing. I'll keep training but it's hurt and I'm sick of it. I'm sick of everyone. The sad thing is, I'm a great boxer. I entertain people and I knock them out.”

In another post on X, Garcia said:
Last week, Garcia made a series of online posts about Caleb Plant's wife, sparking a predictable standoff at the weekend's scheduled fight between Gervonta Davis and Frank Martin.
There was a body wall between Plant and Garcia, but if Garcia was looking to elicit a reaction from the super middleweight, the mind-warping genius took advantage.

Ryan Garcia's 2024
The 25-year-old has had a fantastic year so far.
Prior to facing off against the top pound-for-pound knockout artist, Gervonta Davis, in 2023, Garcia had flown relatively under the radar – not in terms of his skills or résumé, but in terms of his personality, which has captivated the sports world in 2024. Earlier this year, during media rounds for the Haney fight, Garcia started making waves by claiming he would fight and win against Sean O'Malley in mixed martial arts, not boxing.
As his bout with Haney rapidly approached, Garcia took to social media to honestly express how he felt about the hot topics and intrigue that was obsessing everyone. Fight week was no exception. After ranting on the microphone at the press conference, losing 3.2 pounds, and drinking a beer on the scale, it seemed like it was all over for Garcia. But incredibly, as fight day approached, he was more focused and looked sharper than ever. Garcia won by decision, but the fight wasn't over there.

Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney aftermath
A lot has happened since Garcia beat Haney in April.
Some athletes just can't escape controversy, no matter how hard they try. These days, everything Garcia touches makes news. Just days after the Haney fight, Garcia reportedly failed a drug test for Ostarine, an illegal drug that can improve cardiovascular tone and provide other beneficial effects.
The bad press for Garcia didn't end there, as the boisterous fighter was arrested for felony vandalism while staying at a luxury hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The main reason people still pay attention to Garcia is because of his pure boxing talent. Outside of the controversial win, the young fighter's life has been pretty crazy lately. If he does return to the ring, it will be interesting to see who Garcia fights next and at what weight.
