When asked by the 55-year-old radio host about his memories of working with Cruise, 62, Lowe, 60, recounted an impromptu boxing session between the pair.
“He's so competitive that while we were shooting The Outsiders, he would box in the hallways of the hotel we were staying at,” he says. “It's a lot of testosterone. We're 18-year-olds stuck on location, so we had head gear on, mouthpieces on, but we were still sparring.”
Cruise was “bulging” and looked “beastly,” but Rowe remembered him having “arms like pipe cleaners” at the time. Rowe managed to get a “really neat” photo.
“I rang his bell, and the next thing I knew I was waking up, I was on the floor regaining consciousness,” Law told Eisen, “and he'd knocked me completely out.”
“He got a black eye, but that's what we did,” Rowe added. “That's what guys do. Like Fight Club.”
When Lowe joined Dax Shepard on his podcast Armchair Expert and Dax Shepard In April 2020, she shared another cruise memory.
“The entire LA cast auditioned in LA, and then a select few had to go to New York and audition for the New York version,” he said of auditioning for The Outsiders. “So me, Tom Cruise and Emilio auditioned. [Estevez] and C. Thomas Howell.”
“[It was the] “The first time we stayed at the Plaza Hotel, we checked in and Tom was furious when he found out we were in the same room,” Rowe said with a laugh.
