Starting in March, a variety of events will be held in Zhejiang and Hong Kong to celebrate the life of this great writer.
The most comprehensive exhibition featuring archival materials from Jinyong opened on March 10 at the Kangqiao 1924 China Silk Culture and Creative Park in Haining, with more than 800 rare items on display. Exhibits include Jin Yong's manuscripts, calligraphy, editions of his books, and old newspapers. Among the most valuable items are the serial manuscript of “Smiling, Proud Wanderer'' and the manuscript of “Demi-God and Half-Demon,'' provided by the Hong Kong Publications Media Group and Ming Pao. group.
His former residence in Haining was rebuilt in 1998 to recreate his home according to the memory of the author and his family. The mansion was officially opened to the public on March 12th, and is home to many of his friends, including his six visits to Haining since moving to Hong Kong and making donations and supporting local cultural, educational and economic development. An exhibition introducing his life was held.
Memories of his homeland, especially its landscape and culture, remained close to his heart throughout his life, which led to the creation of his martial arts world known in Chinese as Jianghu (literally meaning “river and lake”). It is widely reflected.

Jin Yong's first novel, The Book and the Sword, is based on a Haining folk tale in which the Qianlong Emperor (1644-1911) of the Qing Dynasty actually became Han Chinese instead of Manchurian as a result of a baby swap. This novel, like his other books, includes vivid descriptions of local sights, delicacies, and social customs.
A new edition of The Book and the Sword was recently published in Haining, along with an illustrated map showing all the important places in the city and nearby areas of Zhejiang mentioned in Jin Yong's novel.
Folklore opera works (including shadow puppetry) based on his books will be performed. A documentary has been released about his life story, including his visits and contributions to his hometown.
