As soon as the fire department received the news, they rushed to the scene of the fire early in the morning, blaring sirens. According to reports, Mark Coleman and his family were fast asleep at the scene when his dog, Hummer, became alarmed by something in the kitchen.

The MMA community was shocked after this incident. Everyone from Ryan Gordon to Israel Adesanya came forward to pray for the former champion.
UFC strawweight fighter Tatiana Suarez paid tribute to Hammer, writing: “RIP Hammer. A hero who prays for Mark”, Marcedes Ruiz, an American football tight end for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League, added a prayer emoji for Mark and his family. Joanna Jedrzejczyk added a sad emoji and Tito Ortiz added a praying emoji.
UFC Hall of Famer Dan Severn shared a message for everyone using his X (formerly Twitter) handle “Prayers and best wishes to my friend Mark Coleman. He bravely rescued his parents from a fire in their home and is currently in hospital in critical condition. Mark has always been a fighter and continues to be… I’m fighting for my life.”
