Ricardo Sandoval Although he has fought on Golden Boy Promotions cards for a significant portion of his career, he was not signed to a Golden Boy Promotions card until recently.
Sandoval will fight on March 30th at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California.
Sandoval (23-2, 16 KOs) is a blue-collar fighter who has to take on tough fights, partly to prove he's worth the investment and partly because of the weight class he fights. There wasn't. The flyweight division has no major investors in the United States. , or at least it often felt that way, Sandoval needed to earn his place within the division and gain a promoter's presence.
He signed with Golden Boy Promotions in February 2024, but most of his matches since 2019 have been under the Golden Boy banner.
“I want to thank Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy for signing me and believing in me,” Sandoval said ahead of March 30. “I'm very excited about the future.”
Sandoval has yet to compete for the title. He has been overseas and defeated Jay Harris, and even took down decorated amateur Brent Venegas from the wrong corner, but so far he has missed out on a title shot. He came close in 2022 when he lost by majority decision to David Jimenez. That victory propelled Jimenez into a fight with WBA world flyweight champion Artem Dalakyan.
Mr. Sandoval is currently ranked by all four major sanctioning bodies. His highest ranking is No. 4 on the WBO belt held by Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez.
“I feel like the main reasons why I didn’t win a world title were: [shot] That's because I didn't have a promoter behind me,” Sandoval said. “Now, we're going to go after everyone's belts.
“I've been to the Golden Boy game.” [throughout my career]. I'm just very excited. After signing the contract, you will be even more motivated. ”
Next weekend's opponent, Hernandez (13-6-1, 8 KOs), is a tough, sturdy veteran, and this fight should serve as a reintroduction to his talent.
“I know he’s anxious to get back in the ring since the fight was canceled on February 15th,” Sandoval further said. “I just want to stand in the ring and throw up my hands. Come March 30th, I'm more than ready to put on a show for you all.”
