The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls and boys soccer teams defeated Iowa City-Regina on Monday in two River Valley Conference rivalry games. The Golden Hawk girls lost 2-0 at Wellman. After a scoreless first half, Regina came on as a substitute in the 45th minute. The Regals would add an insurance record in the final 10 minutes of the game to get things under control. Regina beat the Hawks statistically by a score of 30-8 in total shots, 20-3 in shots on goal and 4-1 in corner kicks. Gabby Spell and Alison Brandt were responsible for the scoring for Regina. Niva Helmut made 13 saves for the Golden Hawks. The loss moves Mid-Prairie to 6-4 on the year and the Regals to 6-5. The Hawks return to the field Thursday when they host Central Lee.
In the men's contest, the Iowa City-ranked Regals won 3 wins and 1 loss. Regina scored twice in the first half to build a 2-0 advantage, and each team scored once in the second period. The Golden Hawks' goal was scored on a penalty kick by Tucker Miller, his fourth goal of the season. With the loss, Mid-Prairie falls to 6-5 and the Regals fall to 10-2. The Golden Hawks return to the field Friday when they host the Prince of Peace Irish.
