Kombat Brigade, a community-based martial arts initiative, partnered with Mbogi Genje and Urban Creatives to host an exhibition at Umoja One Boxing Gym in Eastlands.
The Gengetone group performed with Wrong Turn Family and P The DJ.
The event was aimed at promoting martial arts and was open to everyone for free.
Martial artists participated from Kenya, Ethiopia, the United States, Canada, and the Czech Republic. Various demonstrations including combat training, kickboxing, striking, wrestling, grappling, emergency response, self-defense, and fitness training were held to showcase skill, strength, and technique.
The event was attended by martial arts enthusiasts, sports fans and professionals such as George 'The Maverick' Itumoh, Owsamah Ali and Omar Jemal, who witnessed friendly tackles and demonstrations.
Special guests included Maji Maji of Ghetto Radio and Umoja One MCA, Hon Mark Mugambi (Roro).
Organizers said of the initiative, “Combat Brigade is more than just a martial arts initiative; it is a community-centered program focused on empowering people of all ages and backgrounds through the practice of martial arts.”
“And at its core, we are committed to equipping women and children with self-defense techniques. The Combat Brigade team continues to actively run specialized courses in women’s self-defense.”
Nairobi's martial arts community is rapidly gaining popularity and fame. The 1st BJJ Invitational Tournament held in Nairobi in June 2023 was also a success, with participation of the best BJJ athletes from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Ethiopia. With the new winners of the Kenyan team “One Tribe BJJ”.
