MOLINE, Ill. — Nationwide technology issues temporarily disrupted service Thursday at offices around the country that handle driver's licenses, including facilities in the Quad-Cities.
The National Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators said the outage, which lasted from about 9:50 a.m. ET to about 12:30 p.m., was “due to a loss of cloud connectivity.”
“As a result, many auto agencies were unable to issue driver's licenses and vehicle titles during the power outage,” the group said in a written statement.
The Arlington, Virginia-based association maintains a national computer network that allows for the exchange of driver's license information, including driving records.
Staff at the Illinois DMV facility in Silvis said the Silvis location experienced a technical outage Thursday morning.
The Scott County Treasurer's Office also reported technical issues Thursday morning.
The cause of the power outage is under investigation.
Illinois and Virginia are among the states that took to social media to report service disruptions.
“States use this system to verify driver eligibility for driver's licenses and other important jobs,” the Illinois Secretary of State's office said in an emailed statement. .
