WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue cornerback Marquevious Brown recalled sharing a dorm as teammates at Ole Miss with Kindric Breedlove, who was added in the transfer portal.
Breedlove is one of the Boilermakers' recent additions as they navigated the transfer portal.
Brown made 43 tackles and led Purdue with two forced fumbles. Now, he's reunited with Breedlove, who played last season in Colorado under coach Deion Sanders. Brown also worked out with Neeland Green, who went 6-1 and committed to Georgia.

“We have a lot of history,” Brown said. “Coach (Sam) Carter does a great job of keeping us together a lot outside of the facility. We're always at each other's houses, we talk on the phone. We always communicate with each other. I’m taking it.”
Breedlove reflected on his experience playing under both Lane Kiffin and Sanders.
“Ole Miss scouted me right out of high school, so I have affection for both schools,” Breedlove said. “Then going to Colorado was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, just to be with Deion Sanders and for him to play the same position as me.”
It was the lure of a reunion with Purdue cornerbacks coach Sam Carter that convinced Breedlove to come to West Lafayette. Carter coached at Ole Miss in 2022, where he connected with Brown and Breedlove.
Now, the trio is reunited and looking to improve a Purdue team that finished 4-8 in its first season under coach Ryan Walters.
The Boilermakers have a lot of work to do as they rank 90th in third-down conversion defense and 95th in passing yards with 241.5 per game.
“When you're a football player against an entire team, everyone's on a revenge tour,” Brown said. “Everyone wants to be better than last year or the day before. The whole team is trying to be better than before. We're trying to do something special here.”
Improvements to the pass defense started with Carter, who previously worked under coach Ryan Walters at Missouri and later led defensive back units at Arkansas and Ole Miss.
The athleticism provided by Brown, Green and Breedlove is a huge boost for the Boilermakers and for Walters, who was the No. 1 defensive coordinator at the University of Illinois in 2022 before taking the job at West Lafayette in 2023. It should be.
“When you're 4-8, you look back at what you did well and what you thought was good and make adjustments,” Carter said. “We're working on technique, physicality and route recognition. Our offense does a great job of giving us different routes and things we have to identify. As a corner, it's just the little things that make us lose.” “Details matter.” ”
