With just six weeks until the start of the 2024 college football season, the University of Virginia football team will officially begin fall training in just over a week. As anticipation builds for the new season, we're taking a look at what the Cavaliers' two-deep roster will look like when they open the season against Richmond on August 31.
As a disclaimer, this is, of course, merely an educated guess as to what Virginia's depth chart will look like and does not in any way reflect the opinion of the coaching staff who will be making these decisions during fall training. We will revisit a revised version of this depth chart during fall training to reflect what we observe during open practices, including injuries and players who have impressed the Virginia coaching staff.
So, this is what the camp was like before autumn. Virginia Football Player ProfileKeep reading for notes and analysis on the depth chart at the bottom of the article.

Notes and Analysis:
Regarding the controversy that will inevitably come with listing Tony Musket over Anthony Colandrea as a quarterback, it should be noted that Musket and Colandrea are listed as 1a and 1b with no actual starter named because Tony Elliott said exactly that. The starting quarterback position will be decided in fall camp, not before. Without inside information, I would project Musket to have a slight edge over Colandrea because, when healthy, Musket has started over Colandrea with no exceptions. Naturally, the quarterback battle at Virginia will be the biggest storyline to watch in fall camp.

Virginia has deep wide receiver depth. I believe Malachi Fields, Chris Tyree, JR Wilson and Andre Green Jr. will be at or near the top of the depth, but the backup position is less solidified with transfer students and promising sophomores adding to a very deep and talented wide receiver corps. Ethan Davis, Jayden Gibson and Tyriq Coleman could all make a big impact for the Cavaliers this season, but they are not currently in this depth group.
Similarly, UVA has deep defensive back depth, with several players who are not on our depth chart but could play significant snaps, such as Micah Gaffney and Aidan Ryan. I'm pretty confident that Jonas Sanker and Akron transfer Corey Thomas Jr. will start at safety and SPUR, respectively, but there could be big changes at other secondary positions both in fall camp and during the season. After a stellar freshman year, I'm excited to see what kind of leap Dre Walker makes in Year 2. It will also be interesting to see what level of play veteran Antonio Clary performs for UVA after missing all of last season with an injury.

On the offensive line, with UCF transfer Drake Metcalf expected to miss an extended period of time with an Achilles injury, late transfer Ethan Sipe (Dartmouth College) could slide into the starting lineup at right tackle. I wanted to list 10 different players two-deep on the offensive line to reflect the variety of linemen that could make up UVA's rotation, but some players can actually play multiple positions. I've listed Ty Furnish as the backup center, but either guard position could be worked into the depth chart. Bryan Stevens will likely start at center, Noah Georgie at left guard and McKale Boley at left tackle.
