WASHINGTON (AP) — Cade Cunningham Scored 33 points, jaylen duren scored 20 points and grabbed 18 rebounds as the Detroit Pistons defeated the Washington Wizards 96-87 on Friday night, ending their losing streak at eight.
The Pistons trailed by 19 points at halftime, but recovered in a matchup between two bottom-ranked teams in the NBA. Washington (14-60) still leads Detroit (13-61) in the standings after the teams split their four-game season series, with the road team winning each game.
Corey Kispert scored 23 points for the Wizards, who had a terrible first half and trailed 59-40, but the first six points of the fourth quarter brought them back to a one-point lead. Detroit missed its first nine shots in the fourth but quickly turned it around and took an 89-83 lead on Cunningham's 3-point play.
Moments later, Cunningham made his contribution defensively by cornering Poole and blocking a shot. That led to a dunk by Duren on the other end.
Jaden Ivy Detroit had 13 points and Evan Fournier added 10 points. For Washington, Deni Avdija had 18 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists, and Marvin Bagley III added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Kyle Kuzma had just 12 points on a rough shooting night, and he also converted six of Washington's 19 turnovers.
That night, both teams shot less than 30 percent from 3-point range, and they struggled, especially offensively, in the fourth quarter, with Detroit outscoring the Wizards 16-12.
