As the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials continue on Sunday, many local athletes are hoping to represent the United States in Paris.
Sunday's event will include several students from local schools and one former Duke University student, who may not be from the area, but will be cheered on by her brother, Brandon Marsh, who plays for the Philadelphia Phillies.
In fact, Marsh recently told NBC10 that he's excited to see how his sister, Erin, 24, performs on Sunday.
The trial began Friday in Eugene, Oregon.
Erin Marsh will compete in the heptathlon, scheduled to start at 1pm. The event will be broadcast on Peacock.
The heptathlon is a two-day event that includes seven events, including the long jump, high jump and javelin, and Marsh won gold in the event at last year's Pan American Games.
Several local players are scheduled to take part in trials later that day.
The girls' 800-meter semifinals will feature three local runners: Asing Mu of Trenton, N.J.; Allie Wilson of Wallingford, a Strath Haven High School graduate; and Azie Wilson, a Temple University graduate.
In the latest episode of “Drive for Gold,” NBC10 focuses on Delaware County native Allie Wilson, the reigning U.S. indoor champion in the 800 meters. NBC10's Deanna Durante talks about her story, her Olympic dreams and her deep connection to Bill Coren, who still coaches her high school track team.
At 9:40 p.m., two athletes from the area, Curtis Thompson, a graduate of Delsea High School in Franklinville, N.J., and Mark Mitchello, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, will compete in the men's javelin final.
And at 9:58 p.m., Penn State graduate Bella Whitaker will compete in the women's 400-meter final.
Since qualifying began last week, Bethlehem's Joe Kovacs placed second Saturday, qualifying to represent the U.S. in Paris for his third Olympic Games.
Also competing in Monday's high jump final will be Vashti Cunningham, the daughter of Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame quarterback Randall Cunningham.
Randall Cunningham's daughter, Vashti Cunningham, is set to compete in the Paris Olympics. Rosemary Connors profiles the high jumper's preparations for the 2024 Games.
But the Olympic hopes of some local athletes were quickly dashed, with Southern New Jersey resident Josh Awotunde losing in the shot put final and English Gardner losing in the 100m semifinals.
Also, Saucon Valley sprinter Talitha Diggs lost in the 400-meter semifinals.
All of the action from the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials will air Sunday night at 7pm on NBC10, and you can catch it all on Peacock.
