MIAMI – Petr Yan is looking to get back on the winning track and put a loss back on his record against his last two fighters.
The former UFC bantamweight champion ended a three-fight drought with a long-awaited unanimous decision victory over Yadong Song at UFC 299. After winning the interim title against Cory Sandhagen at UFC 267, Yan finished on the bad side with two split decisions against then-champion Aljamain Sterling and current champion Sean O'Malley, followed by Merab Dvalishvili. He lost by unanimous decision. .
Now, back in the win column, Yan is looking to avenge that loss.
“Rematch season begins. Let's go!” Yan exclaimed in English during his post-fight in-cage interview with Joe Rogan.
Sterling is not eligible because he has moved up to featherweight for his next fight, but a rematch with Dvalishvili or O'Malley is possible, but that depends on how the promotion plans to match up against the top fighters at 135 pounds. It depends on whether you want to proceed.
“No matter who the UFC gives me, I want to beat them and I want to prepare more professionally this time than before,” Yan said through an interpreter at the post-fight press conference. “…hunting season has begun.”
