Looking back on Sergeyev's career
Sergeyev posted these numbers while playing for one of the worst teams in the toughest conference in college hockey. UW has never been to the NCAA Tournament since its hockey program has existed, but Sergeyev will have to play regularly against last year's national champion Quinnipiac and will be drafted No. 1 overall in the summer's NHL Draft. It was assumed that it was Macklin Celebrini, who had been nominated in 1st place.
Prior to playing college hockey, he played for the Tri-City Storm in the USHL and was teammates with current Penn State forward Dane Dwiak among the current Big Ten skaters. With the Storm, in 43 games he posted a 2.25 GAA and an impressive 0.913 SV%. Both of these numbers were the best in the USHL for the 2021-2022 season. He won the USHL Goaltender of the Year award.
Sergeyev and his consistent track record of success make him a reliable backstop to complement one of the most talented rosters in program history, including current forward Aiden Fink and incoming forward Charlie Cerrato, who has a chance to be a top draft pick. It should be. This summer, the Nittany Lions will make history.
