UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Athletics has announced its game day theme for the 2024 football season.
The nationally known Penn State White Out is scheduled for Nov. 9 against the University of Washington, the Penn State Stripe Out will be held on Oct. 5 against UCLA and the Helmet Stripes will be held on Nov. 2 against Ohio State.
Theme for the 2024 Penn State football game:
Sept. 7 – Bowling Green (Noon – BTN): THON Games, Youth Sports & Spirit Day, 107K Family Reunion, Faculty Appreciation Day
- At the home opener against Bowling Green, THON family and volunteers will be welcomed and football players will wear THON stickers on their helmets.
- Spirit Day will include a pre-game cheer and dance clinic and an opportunity for cheer and dance participants to perform during halftime, while Youth Sports Day will invite attendees to watch youth sports teams play.
- Penn State faculty and staff will be welcomed as part of Faculty Appreciation Day.
- Penn State's 2023-24 Big Ten/EIVA/CHA Conference Championship team will also be recognized.
September 21 – Kent State University (time and network TBA): Military Appreciation Day
- Penn State will dedicate a game to honor the men and women who served their country when the Nittany Lions take on Kent State. This year's military appreciation theme is POW/MIA, honoring those who were prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action. ROTC elites, active duty, veterans and military families will be honored during the game. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets that will donate to military members and their families through the “Seats for Military” program. - At halftime, academic achievement will be recognized for student-athletes who have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the spring 2024 semester.
September 28 – Illinois (3:30, 4, or 7:30 p.m., network TBA): Homecoming
- In celebration of Penn State Homecoming, the 2024-25 Guide State Forward Award recipients will be recognized during the game. The football team will once again turn back the clock for a special “Generations of Greatness” game, wearing uniforms incorporating design elements from past uniforms. The annual Homecoming Parade will return to campus and downtown State College on Sept. 27.
- The 1994 Rose Bowl team will be honored on the 30th anniversary of their Rose Bowl victory over Oregon.
October 5 – UCLA (time and network TBA): Penn State Stripe Out, All-U Day
- Penn State's Stripe Out will be back. Each section will be coordinated with all blue or white clothing to create a striped effect in Beaver Stadium. Fans can find out their section's Stripe Out colors at PennStateStripeOut.com.
- The annual All-College Day features student representatives from all Penn State campuses at halftime. The All-College Day celebration recognizes national champions from all universities and Commonwealth campuses.
November 2 – Ohio State (time and network TBA): Helmet Stripes
- Beaver Stadium will feature a “helmet stripe” stadium layout for the third time in which most players in Beaver Stadium will wear white, with select players on the east and west sides of the stadium wearing blue, reminiscent of Penn State's traditional helmets.
November 9 – Washington (time and network TBA): Penn State Whiteout
- All fans are encouraged to wear white to ensure a white-out effect when Penn State takes on the Huskies.
November 30 – Maryland (time and network TBA): Senior Day, Scout Day, Educator Appreciation Day, Healthcare Service Appreciation Day, Parent Weekend
- The home schedule concludes with Senior Day, when the Nittany Lions' seniors will be introduced in front of the Beaver Stadium crowd for the final time.
Penn State's season opener is Aug. 31 against West Virginia University, broadcast at noon on FOX. The Nittany Lions return 42 lettermen from last year's team — 17 on offense, 22 on defense and three on special teams — and also return 16 starters — seven on offense, seven on defense and two on special teams.
