Clanton – The Pelham Panthers traveled south to Chilton County to take on the Tigers on the soccer field, with both the girls and boys varsity teams coming away with wins.
On Thursday, April 18, in a game played at Chilton County High School, the Pelham girls won 8-0 and the boys team won 3-0, giving both teams a shutout victory.
In the girls game, Pelham entered the night looking for a comeback win after losing to Briarwood in the area final just two days ago.
The Panthers did just that, putting the loss to the area champions behind them and working toward a positive end to the season.
Pelham had a commanding lead, scoring five goals in the first half alone. Additionally, Chilton County failed to respond in the first 40 minutes, with the Panthers leading 5-0 at halftime.
Entering the second half with a commanding lead, Pelham didn't stop there, adding three more goals before the full-time whistle.
The Panthers' defense also kept a clean sheet for the second time in three games, cementing their 8-0 victory on the road.
Lacey Lambert led the team with three goals and finished the night with a hat trick. Natalie Bunch scored twice to secure two points, tying Lambert for a multi-goal game.
Valerie Jamison, Joselyn Marquez-Castro and Ashvi Davawala also added to the scoring tally with a goal each.
Pelham's boys team followed suit with a shutout performance of their own in the final game of the night.
After failing to score against Briarwood, the Panthers got back on the scoreboard with a first-and-goal and didn't stop there.
Pelham found the net multiple times against the Tigers and finished the night with three total goals.
After that, the defense kept a clean sheet without conceding a goal. That set him up for a 3-0 win and the Panthers returned to Pelham with a win.
