The Los Angeles Clippers are already in talks to extend Kawhi Leonard's contract, and their next challenge is to bridge the gap with Paul George in preparation for a new contract.
About the latest episode of Hoop Collective Podcast (Starts at 6:30 p.m.) ESPN's Brian Windhorst explained that George and the Clippers are “at odds” in contract negotiations.
“Now they can't sign [James] “Harden is going to get an extension during the season,” Windhorst said, “and his contract style doesn't allow for that. So it's not surprising that nothing happened there. But it's been three years since then. Months have passed and there is still no agreement on Paul George, and there are rumors in the NBA that the two are living apart. It's not like they're going to make a big deal out of it. I’m far away.”
There are rumors that the Philadelphia 76ers are looking to make a big deal for George, but Windhorst went on to say that he feels like something could eventually be accomplished with the Clippers.
“I think the league wants Paul George to remain with the Clippers, and there would be some concerns around the league about acquiring Paul George, especially if they had to release players to make room. …My informed guess is that “Ultimately, Paul will agree to a deal with the Clippers. It may not be the maximum amount, but it's more than what the Clippers offered.” It might become something.”
