Brett Fee, a martial arts instructor from Parksville, is preparing for many different types of fights.
The former owner of Cascadia Martial Arts Parksville has announced his candidacy for MLA in the Ladysmith-Oceanside riding.
Mr. Fee, who heads British Columbia's Conservative Party, entered this new battleground after selling his stake in the family business started by his brother Dustin and father Murray in the mid-1990s.
“Throughout the past 30 years, I have had the opportunity to meet many wonderful people in our community,” Fee said in the announcement. “But recently, especially in the last few years, we've realized that our community has issues that aren't as prevalent as they used to be, such as exorbitant costs of living, physician shortages, access to health care, and even the overdose epidemic. There are so many other issues in our state that need to be addressed that I could write about them all day.
Fee throws herself into the ring out of a desire to make a difference in the area and believes she would be the ideal candidate.
“I have to say I didn't have any hope at all,” Fee said. “That's when I decided to take the plunge and put my name out there. Here in British Columbia, it's time to return to common-sense policies that put our people first. If we're going to rebuild this province, There is some serious work to be done, and it starts with us.”
Fee and his wife, Allison, have two boys, ages 9 and 6.
The local elections will take place on October 19th.
