Paddy Pimblett is confident he can carry Conor McGregor on his back for a potential dream match.
Since making his UFC debut in 2021, Pimblett has taken the MMA world by storm, winning five straight inside the Octagon, starting with a bout against former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson at UFC 296 in December.
Pimblett recently sat down with Rob Moore to discuss a variety of topics, including the influx of influencers into the sport and Mark Zuckerberg being an avid MMA fan. Along the way, Pimblett was asked who he thought would be his dream opponent in the UFC. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Liverpool native's choice was none other than Cage Warriors alumnus and one of the highest-paid athletes of all time, Conor McGregor.
“I should say Connor. [McGregor] I would probably have to say him because you get paid more to fight him than anyone else,” Pimblett said.
As for how 'The Buddy' sees this potential dream match playing out, Pimblett takes McGregor's world-class striking out of the equation and gives Khabib Nurmagomedov a win over the Irishman. They will likely be looking to adopt a similar game plan to the one they used for the game. A legendary showdown at UFC 229.
“Obviously, he’s a striker, so I’d like to piggyback on him and submit him,” Pimblett added.
Paddy Pimblett has a way to go before he catches the eye of Conor McGregor
Pimblett's star power seems to be growing a little more with each passing day, but he's still a long way from attracting the attention of Conor McGregor.
Currently, “Mystic Mac” is gearing up for his return to the Octagon, but no one seems to know when that will actually happen. McGregor has been touting, quote-unquote, “the biggest comeback in martial arts history” for some time, but he has yet to set a date. Who is to blame for McGregor's long absence tends to vary depending on who you talk to, with UFC CEO Dana White regularly blaming McGregor by suggesting his vast wealth is to blame. There is.
McGregor, meanwhile, remains adamant that he is ready to return, effectively pleading with UFC and NSAC officials to give him a date.
McGregor's long-rumored return opponent, “Iron” Michael Chandler, recently claimed that the two fighters would finally face off on June 29, the culmination of this year's International Fight Week. There was no official announcement regarding the event.
