Veteran forward Otto Porter Jr. called it a career, announcing his retirement from the NBA after 11 seasons on Monday.
Porter, who was a member of the Golden State Warriors' 2022 championship team, was scheduled to be released by the Utah Jazz early Monday. Shams Charania of athletics and stadiums.
“For the past 11 years, I have had the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream of playing in the NBA,” Porter said. “That dream concluded with winning the NBA Championship! Unfortunately, my body is not allowing me to play at the level I expect from myself, so I have decided to retire.”
Porter entered the NBA as the third overall pick in the 2013 draft by the Washington Wizards. He was traded to the Chicago Bulls in 2019 and then to the Orlando Magic in 2021. He signed a one-year deal with the Warriors for the 2021-22 season and signed a two-year deal with the Toronto Raptors that offseason.
Unfortunately, a foot injury limited Porter to a combined 23 games over the past two seasons with the Raptors. He was traded to the Jazz last month as part of a four-player deal, but did not appear in a game with the team.
Porter played in 527 career games, averaging 10.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals. He was a career 3-point shooter of 39.7 percent. He shot 40.4 percent from beyond the arc during the Warriors' run to the 2022 title.
Before entering the NBA, the 30-year-old starred at Georgetown and was named the 2013 Big East Player of the Year.
