Prajanchai PKSaenchai Gym said he is still getting used to the rules of kickboxing after winning the ONE Championship strawweight title.
The Thai boxer, best known for his work in Muay Thai, won a unanimous decision over former champion Jonathan Di Bella in Bangkok on Friday.
Co-headlining the ONE Friday Fights 68 event, Prajanchai overcame a slow start in which Di Bella made the most of his height advantage to score with straight punches to dominate the final three rounds at Lumpinee Stadium.
The reigning strawweight Muay Thai champion also had to shake off regular warnings for clinching, which is not permitted in kickboxing.
“I'm still not used to the rules of kickboxing, but I did my best,” Prajanchai said. “I now have two titles and I want to hold on to them for as long as possible.”
In the other main event, Superlek Kiatmoo9 easily won a three-round tune-up bout in preparation for his bantamweight Muay Thai title bout at ONE 168.
Superlek is coming off a win over Kongtranee Saw Sommai in the flyweight division and said he feels confident heading into his September bout with Jonathan Haggerty in Denver.
“A lot of people were saying Kontrany was going to be an easy fight, but that wasn't the case. He's a talented fighter. It won't be an easy fight for Jonathan Haggerty in Denver either.”
Earlier in the evening, two former bantamweight kickboxing champions faced off, with Pettanong Petchefergas beating Alaverdi Ramazanov for his first win in nearly two years.
The Thai fighter continued to apply pressure in the second round, with Ramazanov eventually turning his back and refusing to fight as he was injured.
