Omaha hockey defenseman Kirby Proctor has been named the recipient of the NCHC's annual postgraduate scholarship award.
He is the fifth Mavericks player in nine years to win the scholarship, the other UNO recipients being Kirk Thompson, Joel Messner, Ryan Galt and Jason Smalle.
Proctor graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in business administration, majoring in marketing. He had a cumulative grade point average of 3.8.
“The conference is proud to award Mr. Kirby this year's NCHC Graduate Scholarship,” said Chair Heather Weems. “Mr. Kirby has demonstrated that he is a worthy recipient of the award, and we look forward to supporting him as he furthers his education in business administration.”
Proctor played five seasons with the Mavs and finished his career as the UNO all-time player with 172 games played.

“It is an honor to be selected for this scholarship,” Proctor said, “and I am extremely grateful to the faculty at UNO for setting us up for success.”
The Proctor Scholarship award will be $7,500.
