GENEVA (AP) — Olympic tennis champion Belinda Bencic announced Wednesday that she has become a mother for the first time.
Bencic, 27, and her partner Martin Fromković, who is also her fitness coach, posted a photo on their Instagram account with the message “Bella, our love” and the date of Tuesday, the day she was born.
The replies included words of congratulations from top-ranked players Iga Swiatek and Viktorija Golubic, who played doubles with Bencic when Switzerland won the silver medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Bencic won the gold medal in singles by defeating 2023 Wimbledon title winner Marketa Vondrousová in the final.
Bencic previously said she wanted to return to touring as a mother. Since she announced her pregnancy in November, her ranking has dropped from 14th to 92nd.
The tennis competition at the Paris Olympics begins in three months on July 27th.
