Norwegian Lillehammer ice hockey star Alexander Reichenberg, who represented his country at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, has sadly passed away at the age of 31.
Ice hockey star Alexander Reichenberg has passed away at the age of 31, his club has sadly announced.
Born in Sweden, Reichenberg began his professional career with local club Lillehammer IK in the 2008/09 season. He had a distinguished career in the Czech Republic, Sweden and Austria, and at international level represented Norway at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
After playing for two years with rival club Strhammar Hockey, Reichenberg returned to Lillehammer in 2018. He spent loan spells at HC Sparta Prague and Fajestad before finding his best form at Lillehammer. Last winter, Reichenberg had his best season to date, scoring 44 points in the regular season.
Lillehammer described him as “a high profile player with a special element to his game and an important contributor to the group”. He was also part of the captain's team before last season and received “deserved attention from some of the biggest clubs in Norway and abroad” for his performances.
A statement posted by Lillehammer to announce his sad death said: “He will no longer be able to hear the good-natured cries of the crowd at the Eidsiva Arena, and those of us sitting in the stands will no longer be able to see the players. It's incredibly sad to think that I won't be able to see it.” Big smiles, extra feints, and powerful shots from the drop circle on the power play.

Last weekend, it was reported that Reichenberg had spoken to Valerenga about a possible move, with interest from Denmark, Slovakia, Austria and France.
Lillehammer added: “Of course, there were offers from his parent club and he weighed his new professional offer abroad against his job, his club matches and his fulfilling life with his friends and colleagues at Lillehammer.'' I wanted to take the time to consider it,” he added.
Reichenberg appeared in a total of 19 games in the top flight for Norway, scoring five goals and providing four assists.
