Oku Damasi Martial Arts, based in Karsland, is raising funds to help the club qualify for an exclusive world championship in Portugal.
The club sent six students to Ottawa last month to compete in the U.S. Karate Championships and they brought home a total of eight medals, including five gold and three bronze medals in both continuous and point sparring.
The six students will represent Canada at the World Karate Championships (WKC) in Albufeira, Portugal from October 26 to November 1.
Jessica Arce explains that between now and September, they will be running several fundraisers to raise money for the students going to Portugal.
“Funding comes primarily from family, so it can get pretty expensive. One of our fundraisers is a 50/50 raffle box. First prize is a $1,000 booze basket, second prize is six tickets to the Train of Terror through Aspen Crossing, and third prize is a furnace cleanout with Action Furnace.”
To donate and get your 50/50 tickets, visit Oku Damashi Worlds Tournament 2024 .
Another way to donate is to save your empty bottles.
“If you're dropping off a bottle at the Langdon Bottle Depot, just say it's for the Okutama fundraiser.”
Arce said each participant hopes to raise $4,000 for the trip.
