DEXTER, Mich. — Michigan State and Ohio State are arch rivals on the football field, and the two prestigious teams are currently battling for some of the best young players in the Great Lakes state.
The Wolverines offered sophomore tight end Holden Niemi of Dexter last week and the Buckeyes did the same on Thursday, becoming the third Big Ten program to offer the standout athlete. Niemi made the announcement on his X account.
Niemi had a strong freshman season for the Dreadnoughts last year, catching 23 passes for 593 yards and seven touchdowns on his way to being named to the Ann Arbor Dream Team second team and All-SEC.
And this performance came despite the 6-foot-5, 225-pound pass catcher missing the first three weeks of the season, suggesting he's only just scratching the surface of his potential.
For now, that appears to be the case, as there are several Division I programs in pursuit of Niemi in addition to UM and OSU.
Niemi also holds offers from the University of Wisconsin, Duke University, Central Michigan University and Kent State University.
