FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — The National Young Leaders Institute (NYLI) will be hosting a boxing camp for middle and high school students June 23-26 in Fort Wayne.
The camp aims to foster character, discipline and Christian values through boxing. Undefeated super middleweight and United States Boxing Association coach Ron Sims will instruct students at the camp. Hall of Fame boxer, “Creed” actor and author Andre Ward will also speak at the camp and host a book signing.
Ward said he has learned many life lessons from his boxing experiences, lessons he hopes to impart to the students attending the camp.
“I am excited to participate in the NYLI Boxing Camp and share my experiences with the young people who attend,” said Ward. “The sport of boxing has taught me invaluable life lessons, and I look forward to helping my students instill the same discipline, confidence and character that I have found so important in my own life.”
In addition to speaking at the camp, Ward will be hosting a book signing for his recently released book, “Killing the Image,” at Pathway Community Church on June 22 and 23.
NYLI founder Nigel Sims said the camp would help students develop skills beyond the boxing ring, and that the presence of professionals like Ward and Ron Sims would motivate students.
“We are excited to provide this camp as a platform for young people to develop both their athletic ability and their character,” said NYLI Founder Nigel Sims. “Having role models like Andre Ward and my father, Ron Sims, is invaluable and will undoubtedly inspire and motivate our young people.”
