Northwestern coach Russell Payne has made two transfers for the 2024 season.Maryland midfielder Joe Sachecki and Louisville defender Bryce Revell Next fall I will be wearing purple and white.
Suchecki, a 6-foot-3 central midfielder, appeared in 40 games during his four-year career with the Terrapins. The NYCFC Academy product won the U-19 US Soccer Development Academy National Championship before he arrived in College Park, and as a redshirt sophomore the team won the 2022 Big Ten Regular Season Champions. Contributed to the ship's victory.
In addition to his box-to-box prowess, Suchecchi earned his black belt in Seido Karate at just 14 years old.
Rubel played academy ball in the New York Red Bulls' youth system and has also participated in regular training sessions with the Major League Soccer club's first team. He immediately saw playing time as a true freshman for the Cardinals in 2020, logging a team-high 1,304 minutes.
The Sparta, New Jersey native's primary position is central defense, but he can also play in the role of central defensive midfielder. During his stellar four-year career at Louisville, LeBell appeared in 65 games, recording four goals and three assists.
While the Wildcats fell just short of making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014, Payne's purchase of Portal signals NU's intent to make waves nationally next season. Both players are eligible for the postseason and are expected to play important roles on up-and-coming Big Ten teams.
With forward Justin Weiss transferring to Indiana for his final season of college ball, Payne and the Cats will likely be looking for another striker to fill his high spot before the 2024 season.
