Originally designed for Scottie Pippen at the 1996 Olympics, the Nike Air More Uptempo “Olympic” will be re-releasing in full family sizing on August 11th.
Nike first brought back the shoe in limited numbers in 2010, then began retroing it every four years to coincide with international tournaments starting in 2012. Now in its fifth retro, the shoe is identical to the originals Scottie wore in Atlanta. A patriotic mix, white “Air” overlays encase a blue leather base, with red Swoosh logos on the tongue and outsole. Gold numbers are inscribed on the heel of each shoe to represent Pippen's uniform numbers, which he wore during his playing days with the Chicago Bulls and Team USA.
The Air Jordan VI is probably the first shoe that comes to mind when you think of “Olympic” shoes today, but when it comes to the traditional colorways that were actually worn on the court, the Nike Air More Uptempo is a gem. And considering the fact that Scottie Pippen and Team USA put in a great performance to win the gold medal despite Michael Jordan's absence, there's a lot of aura to celebrate about this game.
The Nike Air More Uptempo “Olympic” will return to stores in all family sizing on August 11th, 2024, the day after the Men’s Gold Medal Game in Paris. Return to the “Where to Buy” section below to find purchase links on the release date.
