Nico Young ran a record-setting 10km over the weekend, further boosting his chances of qualifying for the Paris Summer Olympics.
An openly gay athlete broke a college record Saturday at The Ten in Southern California. The record was held by Sam Chelanga of Liberty University, who held the record for 14 years at 27 minutes 08 seconds.
Earlier this month, Young ran for Northern Arizona University and won the NCAA national championships in the 3k and 5k.

Although the outdoor track and field season is just around the corner, Young's main focus will be on earning a coveted spot at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
To qualify for Team USA in the Olympic 10K, runners must run under 27 minutes, a time never before achieved by an American college runner.
Young's next hurdle is this summer at the Team USA Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, where she must finish in the top three of all American runners with sub-27 minute 10K times. . So far, only three Americans have achieved it.
