LOWELL — The carousel continues to turn in college hockey.
The University of Massachusetts Lowell also remains in the mix: Forward Nick Rome, who just completed his sophomore season as a Riverhawk, entered the NCAA transfer portal and recently made his decision.
He will attend Hockey East rival Northeastern University.
UML head coach Norm Bazin and his staff also recruited sophomore forward Connor Eddy from the portal, who was Northern Michigan's sixth-leading scorer since last winter.
Eddie is 6'1″, 201 lbs. and is from Victoria, British Columbia. He played in 69 games at Northern Michigan University, scoring 11 goals and 12 assists for 25 points. Last season he had seven goals, six assists and 13 assists while earning 40 penalty minutes in 34 games. Only two teammates scored more goals than him (seven goals).
Eddie played three seasons with the Victoria Grizzlies, scoring 57 points in 39 games during his senior year before heading to college.
Reaume produced similar numbers in his two seasons at UML, scoring 12 goals and 17 points in 61 games.
Eddie is the sixth player to commit to the University of Massachusetts Lowell through the transfer portal. He joins forward Ian Carpentier (Yale University), goalkeeper Beni Halasz (Northern Michigan University), and defensemen Nick Anderson (Colgate University), Pearson Brandon (Colgate University) and Jack Robilotti (College of Holy Cross).
Twenty-five players from the program were selected to the 2023-24 Hockey East All-Academic Team, earning the top spot in Hockey East, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
To be selected to the All-Academic Team, student-athletes must achieve a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Maine and Vermont had the second-most recipients in Hockey East with 24 award recipients each. Massachusetts and Northeastern were next with 22 award recipients each.
Leading the way for the RiverHawks were sophomore defenceman Mark Cooper (Cambridge, Ontario) and freshman forward Jonathan Horn (Southbury, Conn.), who both earned Hockey East All-Academic All-Star Team honours for posting the highest GPA at their position. Cooper finished the year with a 3.97 GPA in quantitative economics, while Horn finished with a 4.0 GPA while pursuing a degree in business administration.
Six River Hawks players earned their third appearance on the Hockey East All-Academic Team: juniors Owen Cole (Danville, Ontario), Isaac Johnson (Angelholm, Sweden) and Edvard Nordlund (Nacka, Sweden) and seniors Bredan Engham (Burnsville, Minn.), Ben Meehan (Walpole) and Henry Welsh (Lakeville, Minn.). Cole, Johnson and Nordlund each earned the honor in their three years at UML.
Five sophomores – Mitchell Becker (Rogers, Minn.), Dylan Bentley (Peoria, Ill.), Jack Collins (Canton, N.Y.), TJ Schweichart (Manahawkin, N.J.) and Scout Trueman (Lethbridge, Alberta) – earned second-time All-Academic honors. Joining them on the All-Academic Team for second-time selections were juniors Matt Krasa (South Setauket, N.Y.) and Luke Pavich (Clarence Center, N.Y.), senior Jake Stella (Karlstad, Sweden) and graduate student Filip Forno Svensson (Linköping, Sweden).
Rounding out the list of award winners are first-time All-Academic recipients. In addition to Horn, the list includes freshmen Ben Brunette (North Bay, Ontario), Adam Cardona (Beaconsfield, Quebec), Sean Kilcullen (Kensington, Maryland), Jayden Moriello (Saugus) and Sean O'Donnell (Crescent, Pennsylvania), as well as third-year Stephen Owens (Midlothian, Virginia) and graduate students Nick Granowitz (Macomb, Michigan) and Alex Peterson (Collegeville, Pennsylvania).
