- Kyrgios talks about his future after ATP Tour
- The Australian star should be back on court soon
- He was sidelined for several months due to injury.
Nick Kyrgios has announced that he wants to replace the tennis court with a boxing ring when he retires, promising to “call a few people”.
The Wimbledon men's singles finalist has been sidelined for an extended period with serious knee and wrist injuries, having played only one match on the ATP Tour since October 2022.
The 29-year-old has indicated his recovery is progressing well and he has “fire in his belly” to return to the court soon.
On Monday night, Kyrgios held a Q&A on his Instagram page, answering a variety of questions from fans.
Nick Kyrgios has hinted he would like to take a few boxing matches when his career is over.
The Wimbledon men's singles finalist (pictured with girlfriend Kosteen Hazzi) plans to return to court soon.
A fan asked the former world number 13 if he would challenge him to a boxing match, and Kyrgios said he was very interested in the idea.
“Yeah, I will at the end of my tennis career,” Kyrgios said.
“There are some people I would like to talk to.”
A fan then asked if he was going to play against broadcaster Piers Morgan, with whom he has clashed in the past.
“No, we're friends now!” said the Australian.
Kyrgios' divisive antics mean any boxing match he appears in is a surefire moneymaker for promoters. And one person he might want to call out is former arch-rival Bernard Tomic, who is set to challenge Kyrgios in a boxing match in 2022.
Tomic said he would like to settle the long-standing grudge between the two in a tennis match, or on the basketball court or boxing ring.
“First of all, let's set the record straight here,” Tomic said in the video.
The Australian tennis bad boy says there are a few people he wants to be in the ring with.
Kyrgios had a public war of words with Bernard Tomic (pictured left) in 2022, sparking the idea of a boxing match between the two.
“The current score is 1-0. I beat you once before. I'll beat you again anytime if you want.” Whenever we play, whenever we train, I beat you. It's in control, and you know it.
“You say you're good at basketball, but I'll still beat you.”
'tennis? I will dominate you one on one. I'll let you play on the grass any time so you don't have to make excuses.
'you know what? Let's sort this out in a boxing ring. Put on your gloves, I'll rule you there too. Let's see who is better at once.
Kyrgios responded that Tomic first needs to get back in shape on the tennis court, but left the door open for him to compete in a boxing match at the end of his career.
“Maybe one day, when my career calms down, I'll have a brother,” Kyrgios said.
“But at the moment I'm busy preparing for tournaments like Wimbledon. I hope everything goes well. Let's put this behind us. Whether you can get back to the top and back to the main tour will be up to you. I'll tell you when I play against you.”
“But for now, I think my brother has bigger challenges ahead of him in life, so good luck.”
