ROCKFORD, IL — The Belvidere Fury and the new Rockford Area High School Hockey Program invite the public to an information session at Carlson Ice Arena at Love's Park on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 7 p.m.
The two hockey clubs established Rockford Area High School Hockey Inc., a unified high school hockey program, in parallel with Rockford Hockey Club's midget teen program.
The initiative was approved by the Illinois Amateur Hockey Association earlier this week and will allow all players who begin their hockey journeys in Rockford to continue playing together under the same banner, regardless of their school affiliation. The purpose is to The group named the team the Rockford Lightning, paying homage to the city's sports heritage.

This integrated club is intended to overcome the challenges young athletes face when transitioning from youth hockey programs to high school hockey programs, such as limited ice time, coaching availability, and school options.
The new program will allow players from Belvidere North, Guilford, Hononega, Harlem and Stillman Valley to join high school combined teams while also joining the Rockford Hockey Club roster.
The Rockford Park District will offer optional skating to athletes in attendance after the meeting starting at 8:20 p.m.
