Swatch, the affordable sibling of the Olympic Games' official timekeeper, has unveiled four new themed watches celebrating the Summer Olympics kicking off in Paris next month. Three of the four models are inspired by the sports featured in the Summer Olympics, while the fourth, from the brand's children's watch collection, Flik Flak, is dedicated to the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The first of Swatch's new Paris 2024 Olympic watches is the Green Backside Wave (Ref. SO29G108), inspired by the sport of surfing. With a diameter of 41 mm, a thickness of 9.85 mm and a lug-to-lug length of 47.4 mm, the Swatch Green Backside Wave's case is made from dark green bio-based resin and fitted with a domed crystal made from bio-based plastic. Featuring a dark green dial with white and green accents, the Green Backside Wave is water resistant to 30 meters, powered by a standard time-only ETA quartz movement and features a user-friendly battery hatch on the caseback that can be easily opened with the edge of a knife or coin. Finally, the lugs are fitted with a silicone strap with a green gradient finish and a pink keeper decorated with a multicolored surfboard print.
The second watch in Swatch's new Paris 2024 Olympic Games collection is the Blue Heel Flip (ref. SUSN420), a model dedicated to skateboarding sports. Based on the brand's chronograph series, the Swatch Blue Heel Flip features a dark blue resin case fitted with a domed plastic crystal, measuring 42mm in diameter, 14.03mm thick and with a lug-to-lug profile of 50.1mm. With a gold second hand and a dark blue gradient dial with pink, white and light blue accents, the Blue Heel Flip is water resistant to 30 meters and is powered by an ETA quartz chronograph movement that also features a date display at 4:30. Operation of the watch is via light blue pushers and a pink crown on the left side of the case. Completing the Swatch Blue Heel Flip is a dark blue silicone strap with a pink underside and a multi-colored skateboard design keeper.
Completing the trilogy of sports-inspired models in the Swatch Olympic Paris 2024 Collection is the Purple Rollshot (Ref. SO28V700), inspired by the sport of volleyball. Crafted from purple bio-sourced resin and fitted with a domed bio-sourced plastic crystal, the Swatch Purple Rollshot's case measures 34mm in diameter, 8.75mm thick and 39.2mm lug-to-lug, and like the other models in the collection, is water-resistant to 30 meters to protect against accidental contact. Featuring a deep purple dial with pink and white detailing, the Purple Rollshot also features a dual day/date display with a light purple and pink calendar disc at the 3 o'clock position. As you would expect, the Swatch Purple Rollshot is powered by a standard three-hand ETA quartz movement and comes on a silicone strap with a dark purple gradient finish on the lugs, a pink underside, and a keeper decorated with a multicolored volleyball print.
Finally, the fourth and final model in the Swatch Olympique Paris 2024 lineup is the Flik Flak Paris 2024 (ref. FPNP154), a children's watch celebrating this year's Olympic and Paralympic Games. Made from clear blue resin and fitted with a plastic crystal, the Swatch Flik Flak Paris 2024 measures 31.85mm in diameter, 9.25mm thick, and features a lug-less design with a lug-to-lug profile of 30.6mm. It also features the same 30-meter water resistance as the rest of the Swatch Olympique Paris 2024 collection. Fitted with a white dial with red and blue accents, the Flik Flak Paris 2024 is powered by a standard time-only ETA quartz movement and comes with a fabric strap made from recycled PET featuring the “Phryges” character, the official mascot of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Since the Olympics are the most famous sporting event in the world, the appeal of merchandise celebrating the Olympics is understandable, and outside of watch enthusiast circles, there is a community that collects various Olympic-themed items. With that in mind, most of the Olympic merchandise exists in the form of t-shirts, pin badges, and key chains, and these memorabilia are offered at prices significantly lower than the cheapest Omega watches. While it would take a significant amount of money to purchase an Omega Olympic watch, choosing one of these Swatch Olympic Games Paris 2024 models allows you to enjoy the novelty of an Olympic watch without spending the same amount of money that would be required to travel to Paris and watch the event in person.
As you'd expect from the Swatch Group's most affordable watch, all of Swatch's Paris 2024 Olympic models are firmly positioned in the affordable range, with the Green Backside Wave (ref. SO29G108) priced at $85Blue Heel Flip (ref. SUSN420) $130Purple Roll Shot (ref. SO28V700) $75and the Flik Flak Paris 2024 (ref. FPNP154) is the cheapest. $40While the Olympic-inspired Speedmasters may only appeal to Olympic aficionados (and the very wealthy), these Swatch models are the Paris Olympics watches for the masses, and they're priced perfectly reasonable for a fun, themed addition to the horology.
