Las Cruces, New Mexico (KTSM) – The New Mexico State football team entered the final week of the 2024 spring football season on Monday.
NMSU, led by new head coach Tony Sanchez, took to the practice field Monday for its 11th spring session.
The Aggies are nearing the end of their first spring season under the direction of Sanchez and his new coaching staff.
NMSU is still getting used to the new era of Aggies football. So far, the team is pleased with its progress entering the final week of spring baseball in Las Cruces.
“We have so many guys returning on the offensive end that we'll be adding some new quarterbacks to. They'll have a veteran O-line group, running back room, wide receivers around them. We have players like Room who have been active for a long time, so it was really good,” Sanchez said. “Defensively, obviously with the new staff, they're coming together well. It's been a process, but I feel really good heading into the spring last week.”
“We almost had a brand new team,” NMSU tight end Eli Stowers said. “We left a lot of players on the offensive line. Obviously, we have a new quarterback and almost a whole new defense, so we knew there would be some growing pains at the beginning of spring ball, but There's definitely been a lot of progress on both sides.”
New Mexico State will have another spring practice on Wednesday before playing the spring game at Aggie Memorial Stadium on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. (Montana time).
