CASH COUNTY, Utah (WAFB) – Baton Rouge native and rap superstar NBA YoungBoy has been arrested in Utah and held in strict custody amid legal proceedings stemming from two arrests during the filming of a 2020 music video. He was serving a sentence of house arrest.
The 24-year-old man, whose real name is Kentrell Golden, was arrested on multiple charges on Tuesday evening, April 16, around 6:30 p.m., according to Cache County Sheriff's Office jail records.
According to jail records, YoungBoy was taken into custody on the following charges:
- pattern of illegal activity
- procuring or attempting to procure medicines/prescriptions;
- impersonation fraud
- counterfeit
- Possession of other controlled substances
- Possession of a Dangerous Weapon by a Restricted Person
YoungBoy is awaiting trial on federal firearms charges, but the case was suspended in March pending a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on his Second Amendment rights this spring.
The rapper was indicted in March 2021 after he was found with two guns during an incident in Baton Rouge in September 2020. 16 people were arrested on drug and firearm charges while filming a music video in an abandoned building.
In July 2022, a federal jury in Los Angeles acquitted YoungBoy of “knowingly” possessing a firearm during his arrest after a brief foot pursuit in California.
He is under house arrest in Utah, monitored by a security company staffed by military veterans. Last December, a federal judge eased the conditions of YoungBoy's house arrest to allow him access to mental health treatment, but despite arguments that lockdowns had caused record sales to drop, recording studios refused to increase their stay in the country.
No bail has been set.
