The Chicago Bulls made a big move on Thursday, sending veteran Alex Caruso to the Oklahoma City Thunder for 21-year-old guard Josh Giddey.
This trade may just be the beginning for the Bulls this offseason.
Zach LaVine's name has been in trade rumors for nearly his entire career, beginning with his early days with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and with two seasons remaining on his contract with Chicago and a player option for a third year, the 29-year-old LaVine is once again in the trade spotlight.
Jake Fisher of Yahoo Sports reported Friday that the Sacramento Kings are LaVine's most likely destination if he is traded this offseason. Fisher said the Philadelphia 76ers also considered acquiring LaVine, but that he is more of a “backup option” for Daryl Morey's front office at this point.
LaVine was limited to 25 games last season because of foot surgery, but when healthy he is one of the league's leading scorers and would be an intriguing pairing in Sacramento alongside De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis as a consistent scoring threat where Kevin Huerter and Harrison Barnes have yet to prove themselves.
Fisher said the Kings, who reportedly signed Sixth Man of the Year runner-up Malik Monk to a four-year contract on Thursday, are “actively” exploring trade options for Barnes and Huerter. Sacramento also owns the 13th and 45th picks in the upcoming NBA draft, which could be used in a trade.
