The 20th annual NBA Summer Basketball in Las Vegas kicked off with seven games featuring the top three overall picks in the 2024 NBA Draft. Here are the players who stood out the most on Thursday.
Jalen Wilson, Brooklyn Nets
Wilson hit the game-winning shot in a 102-100 overtime win over Orlando and finished with an impressive 33 points (11-of-20 field goals, 6-of-7 3-pointers, 10 rebounds). In his second year in the NBA, the 23-year-old forward is averaging 24.5 points in four games with Las Vegas, including three games with 25 or more points.
Scottie Pippen Jr., Memphis Grizzlies
A day after scoring 25 points (16 of which came in the fourth quarter) in a dominating win over Orlando, Pippen was on a roll again, recording 17 points, six rebounds, 11 assists and three steals in Memphis' 88-77 win over New Orleans. Pippen's performance helped the Grizzlies improve to 4-0 in the NBA 2K25 Summer League.
Jaylon Tyson, Cleveland Cavaliers
Tyson was all-around product in Thursday's 93-89 loss to the Lakers. The 20th overall pick in this year's draft finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and two steals. In addition to filling up the points column, he was also extremely efficient, making 6-of-9 field goals and 8-of-9 free throws.
Dalton Knecht and Bronny James (Los Angeles Lakers)
The Lakers' two rookies combined for 33 points in a 93-89 win over Cleveland. James improved on his Las Vegas best of 12 points with 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting, five rebounds and three assists. Knecht, who missed the previous game, finished with 20 points and seven rebounds. In three games in the desert, Knecht is averaging 21.3 points.
Kobe Brown, Los Angeles Clippers
Brown seemed to bounce back after the halftime break, scoring 19 of his 22 points in the second half to help the Clippers beat the Utah Jazz 105-88. The win kept LA undefeated and secured a spot in the semifinals of the NBA 2K25 Summer League. Brown was all-around effective on Thursday, grabbing four rebounds and dishing out a team-high six assists.
