NBA scouts don't seem thrilled with Bronny James' overall ceiling as he looks to the next level.
On Thursday, ESPN's Mark J. Spears (2:30 mark) said this during an appearance on his show. nba today Comments from two scouts weren't too kind about the son of the legendary LeBron James.
- “if, [Los Angeles] The Lakers won't draft him, and I don't think anyone will draft him.
- “He should be a point guard given his size, but he can't run the offense.”
- “Poor Man's Davion Mitchell”
- “In my opinion, he's not an NBA prospect.”
It's worth noting using Mitchell as a player comparison since Mitchell isn't exactly an NBA All-Star.
The Sacramento Kings selected him ninth overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, and he appears to be on track for a notable career as a rookie as he averaged 11.5 points, 4.2 assists, and 0.7 steals per game. Ta.
However, his scoring total decreased to 5.6 points per game in his second season and 5.3 points per game in his third season. During this period, his playing time per game also decreased from 27.7 hours to 18.1 hours to 15.3 hours.
Regardless of James' family connections, the team definitely isn't going to tip themselves over to draft someone who is the “poor man” version of the production. Frankly, if he wasn't LeBron's son, he might not even be paying attention to the NBA Draft at this point in his career.
In the end, he suffered a cardiac arrest during offseason practice and was still recovering, so he didn't even make his college debut until mid-December of last year. Although he showed glimpses of potential, his first season at USC was largely inconsistent as he worked his way back into the rotation throughout the season.
James ended up averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, but shot just 36.6 percent from the field and 26.7 percent from deep.
Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman didn't expect James to be selected in his latest mock draft, but the Lakers or someone else could take a chance on him late in the second round. After all, he is a five-star prospect according to 247Sports' composite rankings and could be used as something of a recruiting tool for his father, who likely has a player option for next season.
But the scouts Spears spoke to don't appear to be trying to convince teams to draft him.
