Shaquille O'Neal has a lot of nicknames. He's also a Stephen Curry fan, so it makes sense that he would want to give himself a nickname after Curry, even though he's the complete opposite of the player.
During an episode of The Draymond Green Show, Shaq revealed that he jokingly calls himself the “Black Stephen Curry,” and the reason for this nickname was even more ridiculous than the nickname itself.
“I envy those guys,” Shaq told Green about today's centers. “I wish I could step up and shoot a three-pointer. You know why I call myself the 'Black Stephen Curry'? Because if I go in the gym and I miss 190 three-pointers, I make one and I'm the 'Black Stephen Curry.' It feels great to step up and shoot a three-pointer, bro.”
The game of basketball is completely different than the game Shaq played. No one could stop Shaq yesterday and no one will stop him today. The only difference is that Shaq will have to tighten up his defense so he doesn't become a burden on the defense. Although Shaq's playing days are over, he still gets jealous when he sees modern players shoot three-pointers.
“When I'm jealous, I'm not envious,” Shaq said. “I'm jealous to motivate myself. Sometimes I go out there and I try to shoot like Klay Thompson. I just try to go out there and shoot like Klay Thompson. I'm jealous of them because I wish I could do that.”
Shaq may just be a funny guy on TV these days, but let's not forget that he is arguably the greatest player in the history of basketball.
