The Houston Rockets are planning for the future, and this year looks brighter than ever since the rebuild began.
The Rockets improved by 19 games last season, showing they are inching closer to the postseason. Bleacher Report ranked every NBA team and their likelihood of appearing over the next three years. The magazine ranked the Rockets 20th.
“Houston continues to grow, and it's easy to imagine this core doing something special (particularly with Schengün, Green, and Smith, stylistically adding Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Michael Porter Jr.),” Bleacher Report wrote. “But this feels more like a “four or five years down the line'' group than a “fight for the title right now'' group.
The Rockets are promising, but haven't proven anything yet, so they're probably in the bottom half of the league in this standings. Next year will be a big year for Houston, as the team finally looks to make the playoffs. If they can finally break the seal and return to playoff basketball, it would be the first step for the Rockets to establish a truly competitive team.
Another losing season would raise questions about whether the current group of players can overcome this challenge.
