Heading into the offseason, the Philadelphia 76ers are in negotiations with several star forwards, with Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant being the subject of much speculation, though there have been no reports that he is available.
A few weeks ago, ESPN's Zach Lowe pointed out that the 76ers would be a likely suitor if the Suns tried to move Durant, but his colleague Kendrick Perkins didn't think so.
During a recent episode of First Take, Kendrick Perkins shared his thoughts on Durant switching teams again. He believes the former MVP would be best suited for the Miami Heat, not the Sixers. It's worth pointing out that the Heat were also listed as a possible team when KD requested a trade with the Brooklyn Nets.
“I know the Miami Heat have been to the NBA Finals twice, but Jimmy Butler couldn't get them through that wall. You have a guy like Kevin Durant up there.” Perkins said,“And the Miami Heat have some players that are pleasing to the eye, too.”
While the Heat have had some recent postseason success, the 76ers still have a lot to offer Durant. For starters, he'd get to play alongside one of the best players in the league in Joel Embiid, not to mention Tyrese Maxey, who has had a breakout season this year. Pairing those two together would put Durant in a good position to add another championship to his resume.
Miami may have more to offer in terms of exciting young players, but Philadelphia may be KD's best option in terms of fit: He'd be joining a promising star duo and a front office with the cap space to properly fill out a strong supporting cast.
