Nate Diaz is the subject of a new lawsuit filed by Logan Paul look-alike Rodney Petersen for his role in an April 2023 street fight outbreak in New Orleans.
Mr. Petersen, also known as Not Logan Paul, filed the lawsuit in Louisiana civil district court last week, alleging he suffered “severe physical injuries, including but not limited to head, neck, brain, and pain.” He claimed that he owed it. Damages include “suffering, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress, medical expenses, and loss of income and earning capacity.” Mr. Petersen's wife, Bobbie, is also named in the suit, and she claims damages including “loss of consortium, loss of services, loss of support, loss of love and care.”
MMA Fighting confirmed the news on Friday after it was first reported by the Louisiana FOX affiliate.
On the night of April 21, 2023, during a brawl on Bourbon Street, Diaz locks Petersen in a standing guillotine, hits him with a knee, and throws Petersen to the ground, who appears to be unconscious. A video of the incident went viral on the internet. Petersen later claimed that the altercation left him with a severe concussion and eight staples in his head.
Diaz turned himself in to New Orleans police shortly after the incident, but prosecutors ultimately decided not to press charges.
“Second-degree assault charges against Mr. Nathan Diaz have been declined by the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office,” Keith D. Lumpkin, the office's director of operations and external relations, said in September. “After reviewing all available evidence of the charges, including video and testimony, there is insufficient support to prove the criminal charges.”
Since the altercation, Diaz's team has maintained that the UFC legend acted in self-defense.
Diaz's attorney, Zach Rosenfield, released a terse statement on Friday calling MMA Fighting's Damon Martin “LOL” in response to Petersen's new lawsuit.
