Nate Diaz is set to make more money than Jorge Masvidal in Saturday's fight.
This Saturday, Diaz and Masvidal will face off in a 10-round light heavyweight boxing bout at Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The bout is a rematch of sorts to the 2019 fight at UFC 244 that determined the first “BMF” champion, a concept Diaz invented. The Stockton native lost that bout via doctor's stoppage in the third round, but the previous result doesn't seem to affect the purse for this fight, as Diaz has the most guaranteed purse of all fighters on the upcoming card at $500,000, while Masvidal will only make $300,000 before pay-per-view sales.
The California State Athletic Commission revealed the salary amount in a message sent to MMA Fighting's Damon Martin on Saturday.
In fact, Masvidal won't even be the second-highest-paid fighter at Saturday's event; former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, who faces Chris Avila in the night's headline bout, is set to earn a guaranteed $350,000. Avila, meanwhile, will earn $210,000, making him the fourth-highest-paid fighter on the card, ahead of former world boxing champion Daniel Jacobs, who earned just $100,000 ($160,000) for his bout with Shane Moseley Jr. But Jacobs failed to make weight for his bout and was fined 20 percent of his prize money, half of which will go to Moseley Jr.
A complete list of salaries for the event can be found below: As always, these figures do not represent the fighters' total earnings, as sponsorship revenue, pay-per-view revenue and other sources of income are not publicly disclosed.
