Diaz (21-13 MMA, 0-1 boxing) and Masvidal (35-17 MMA) are scheduled to clash for the second time tonight in Anaheim, Calif. The two first faced off in November 2019 at UFC 244 for the promotion's BMF title. “Gamebred” ultimately won by TKO in the second round after inflicting multiple lacerations on the Stockton native's face.
This time, the two will face off in a 175-pound boxing bout scheduled for 10 rounds.
Nate Diaz last competed in mixed martial arts last August, losing a unanimous decision in his professional boxing debut to Jake Paul. Prior to that setback, “The Stockton Slugger” had submitted Tony Ferguson at UFC 279.
Meanwhile, Jorge Masvidal last competed at UFC 287, losing via unanimous decision to Gilbert Burns. This marked Masvidal's fourth straight loss, having previously lost twice inside the Octagon to Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman.
Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal are both big names, but the “Stockton Slugger” stands to make almost twice as much as “Gamebred” from tonight's boxing match.
This is according to MMA Fighting, which received the following awards from the California State Athletic Commission earlier today:
