ANAHEIM, Calif. – Nate Diaz is always thinking ahead and planning.
Following his majority decision win over Jorge Masvidal in a boxing match on Saturday at Honda Center in Anaheim, California, Diaz had several names on his mind – all fighters he has faced in the past.
During an in-ring interview with Brian Campbell, Diaz named Jake Paul as a possible next opponent, but later clarified why his former rival's name was mentioned first.
“(Paul) wanted to beat him right away,” Diaz told MMA Junkie and other reporters at the post-fight press conference, “and beat Leon Edwards, who is the best fighter in the world right now at 170 pounds.”
It's unclear what Diaz's next move will be. Boxing or MMA? No one knows. But one thing is certain: Diaz wants the fight that will earn him the most respect and the most money.
“All I think is, anybody who thinks they're super solid, they're gonna get beaten,” Diaz said.
However, there is one fight Diaz isn't interested in, and that's his most recent fight.
The two fighters are tied with one win each in their head-to-head combat sports, but Diaz has denied the idea that the time has come for a third showdown with Masvidal.
“That's another story,” Diaz said. “I think we're both 1-0. He won in MMA and I won in boxing. Who knows what's going to happen with him, but something will happen at some point.”
