Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal have nothing left to say to each other.
Diaz and Masvidal weighed in on Friday at 175.6 pounds and 175.2 pounds, respectively, for this Saturday's 10-round light heavyweight boxing bout at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
The fighters weighed in early Friday morning and took part in a ceremonial weigh-in on Friday afternoon, before facing off in their final matchup before the big event. “We'll have the necessary security and we'll put the fighters together,” host Jimmy Lennon Jr. declared.
But Lennon's words were not prophetic. Diaz and Masvidal kept a safe distance from each other, standing just a few feet apart before the final interview, when Diaz pulled back the curtain on the ceremonial event.
“Hey, this is all a lie. I weighed in this morning,” Diaz said, before smiling, giving a peace sign and walking off stage.
Masvidal, by contrast, had a more traditional message ahead of Saturday's fight.
“I just need to get some more sleep,” Masvidal said, “and then I can pay off the work I've been doing since January. I thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for every moment, for everything. Whether you guys like it or not, I'm going to crush you tomorrow. I'm here to do my job. I'm going to kill somebody tomorrow. All the name-calling is done. Now it's time to fight. We'll find out tomorrow if my side was right or his side was right. See you all there.”
