Nanaimo RCMP are searching for a suspect who attempted to stab a dog walker near the old Visitor Information Centre on Northfield Road.
According to a press release from Nanaimo RCMP, the incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, when a 44-year-old Nanaimo man was walking his dog in a wooded area behind Northfield Rotary Lookout Park, near the intersection of Nanaimo Parkway and Northfield Road, when he was confronted by another man armed with two knives.
The attacker brandished a knife at a man walking his dog and tried to stab him, but the dog leapt at the attacker and bit him in the right leg, police said. The dog's owner, who is trained in martial arts, was able to neutralize the attacker and seize the knife, police said.
The suspect left the scene with a red suitcase and a red walker, but despite extensive foot patrols by police dog services and officers around the scene, the suspect was not found.
The suspect is between 30 and 40 years old, has shoulder-length brown hair, was wearing dark clothing and had a bra on her head at the time of the incident.
The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information about the suspect to call the Nanaimo RCMP detachment emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file number 2024-21944.
